Trudy Bersma’s work shows a range of different techniques. Apart from paintings and graphics Trudy also makes objects in ceramics and, amongst others, concrete.
She composes objects from different articles of use, which then get a new and different meaning.
Working with expressive colors shows through very strongly in her work. Obviously in her painting, but also used in her composed objects. A strong tendency to the use of primary colors, blue, red and yellow, is typical of her work. In her drawn paintings, which are mostly black and white, she uses graphic elements. Combined with abstract shapes that gives a playful character.
The origin of this exuberant use of color originates in her passion for all things Spanish, like the Spanish way of life and the temperamental and sunny landscape, which she translates to her own figurative language.
She expresses the figurative as well as the abstract in a powerful manner.
She also creates work for public spaces and in commission like this garden bench, which is made in commission of the municipality of Zoetermeer.
